Gregory A. Dembo, M.D.

Dr. Dembo is a UW associate professor of anesthesiology. He is a director of the Division of Transplant Anesthesia at UWMC. As chair of the anesthesia equipment committee at UWMC, he helps bring innovative technologies into anesthetic practice.

Patient Care Philosophy
"Don't just treat the disease - treat the patient as a whole person. Understand that every patient has unique needs, and meet them with compassion and respect. Try to know the maximum about your patient, and let the patient ask as many questions as possible. The more you know about your patient, and the more patient knows about what is going on, the easier and more successful will be your work."

Hiking, biking, skiing, traveling and spending time with family.

He receives great pleasure from sharing his knowledge and experience with younger colleagues, and watching them grow and change.

Clinical Interests
Abdominal transplants, including transplantation of the liver, kidney, pancreas, and intestines. He also lead the development of anesthetic management of living related kidney transplantation surgery.


Research Interests
Patient safety during transplantation surgery. The prevention of such devastating complications as massive bleeding and reperfusion injury during liver transplantation surgery.
